Tamás Féner

1938

After secondary school, he completed the Journalism School of the Association of Hungarian Journalists (MÚOSZ). He was editor of Fotóművészet for 25 years, and a contributor to Film Színház Muzsika between 1957–1986. He was the editor and picture editor of dailies and weeklies between 1986–2003, and after he retired he became a consultant for the Hungarian News Agency. He was a member of the Hungarian Photographers’ Association from 1966, and its secretary between 1978–1986. In 1976 he was one of the founders of the Studio of Young Photographers. He taught at the School of Journalism of MÚOSZ, at Eötvös Lóránd University, and the Hungarian University of Applied Arts. The world of art formed the focus of his interest. From the early 1970s, his series were informed by a desire to represent, reveal and analyse social conditions. Awards: EFIAP (1971), Balázs Béla Prize (1973), Artist of Merit (1984), For Budapest memorial medal (1997), Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary, Officer’s Cross (1998), For Hungarian Jewish Culture (2004), Artist of Excellence (2005), Prima Prize (2007), Scheiber Sándor Prize (2008), My Country Prize (2008), Kossuth Prize (2010).
