Pictures and Pixels - Photographic Art and Beyond
National Salon 2016

Illés Sarkantyu

PHOTOGRAPHER

1977

He has lived and worked in Paris since 2002. Documents, found objects and works of art tend to form the point of departure for his works. His approach is analytical, his series are characterized by a diversity of genres, technical simplicity, staging, and often a frontal presentation. Paraphrase is his principal method: his re-readings, which sometimes look deceptively like the original, concern the borderland between photography and other fields. What is a photograph? Is it a work of art? Who owns its originality? Whose intellectual property is it? Important projects: Mihály (2011), Hervé (2012), Csendéletek (Still lifes, 2013), Árnyasok (Shady Grooves, 2014), Béke (Peace, 2015).
