He taught himself the art. He is credited with breathing a new life into Hungarian sports photography in the 1950s. As a picture editor and press photographer, he was a key practitioner in the Hungary of the second half of the 20th century. His exhibitions (Műcsarnok, 1976; Vigadó, 1983) and albums (Fotográfiák [Photos], 1998; Csak lovak [ Only Horses], 2005) were always received enthusiastically. Selected prizes: Artist of Excellence, Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary, Knight’s Cross. Last exhibition: Szabad szemmel (By the naked eye) – Fotó Hemző, Hungarian National Museum, 2015–2016. Last book: Hódolat a bajnoknak (Homage to the champion), 2012.
